Zulfiqar Mirza’s statement a violation of party discipline NOWSHERA, Sept 2 (APP): Minister for Excise and Taxation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Liaquat Shabab has said that Zulfiqar Mirza’s statement at a recent press conference was a violation of Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) discipline. Liaquat Shabab, who is also Provincial Secretary of PPP, said that the party leadership reserved the right to take disciplinary action against Zulfiqar Mirza. Speaking at a press conference Liaquat termed the statement of Zulfiqar Mirza very important and said that it discusses major national issues and it must be investigated by relevant agencies to verify the facts. He also suggested that a high level commission be set up to find out the reality of the allegations levelled by Zulfiqar Mirza. He said the Supreme Court of Pakistan has taken a suo moto notice of the situation in Karachi and hoped that it would summon Zulfiqar Mirza and ask him to submit the evidence of what he had stated at his press conference. He hoped the Supreme Court would then announce a decision in the national interest. Liaquat said that various elements including the media would have to play their role for promoting peace in Karachi. He said Muttahida Qaumi Movement carries heavy responsibility and it would also have to answer for the questions raised by some elements. The significance of the statement of Zulfiqar Mirza should be evaluated against the background of incidents like Abbotabad and Mehran Base, he said. Liaquat Shabab said that Mirza’s statement is a major disclosure of the events taking place in Karachi by some parties and groups in the overall security situation. The party high-ups should also look into Mirza’s statement for taking appropriate action, keeping in view the national interests, he added. Liaqaut lauded the political vision of Asif Ali Zardari  and his continued efforts for political reconciliation in the country, bringing all political parties to a single platform for tackling the major national issues. He said that PPP would never compromise on national interests and its political agenda and its manifesto. Liaquat said the President’s policies are in line with the political struggle of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto. Even Asif Ali Zardari’s opponents recognise his sagacity and foresightedness in the political affairs, he added. He said that PPP and its leadership has rendered unprecedented sacrifices for safeguarding the country and securing the rights of the people and it would continue to do it in future as well. He was of the view that practical steps were needed for improving law and order in Karachi so that peace could be restored there.
